   What do you think of the "going green" fad?
   
   As with many other things, I find the whole movement of "going green" to be as commercialized and full of fake fluff as Christmas. How do you feel about the whole thing?

   It is a complete scam. What's green one year is not green the next. Also, the biggest advocates of this nonsense are the people with the most un-green lifestyles ever. Al Gore, in particular.
   And the total human output of non-greeness can't match the anti-greeness of just one volcanic eruption or one year's worth of forest fires.

   It's not a fad. It's a way of life. Look to the future. Protect the earth. Conserve. Make the world a better place for future generations.

      Thanks for the comment. I did post an article addressing my full thoughts on the subject. It's not that I think we don't need a change. It's the way people many people don't seem to take the need seriously  that inspired my question.

   I think some of it is commercialized, but there are some people that take going green seriously.  That want to help preserve the environment and waste as little as possible. 
   
   Quite frankly, going green gives a lot of people excuses to save money.  At work, it is not that we can't afford to buy paper.  No, we are "going green" and can't use paper as much.  It's not that we can't afford to run the electric as much.  It is that we are "going green" and conserving it.

      Well said. That's exactly why I asked the question. I wanted to get some ideas on what people think and prep my own mind for an article. All so I can study the topic more deeply. Some people are making real change, others, not so much.

   That is kind of like asking if religion is a fad. Some people treat it that way. Sometimes it is just a way for people to trick others into giving them their money (e.g. Harold Camping). But that doesn't mean it is true for all, nor does it invalidate the faith people may have in their hearts.
   
   There are obviously a lot of companies that will stick "green" on a product in order to sell it. However, it isn't like genuine environmentalism is somehow a new thing. Environmentalism and conservation have a long and rich history in America.

   I don't think its a fad we seriously need to address issues when it comes to the environment. This is no fake story when you look around at see the state that this world has become.

      I agree with Writer in some ways. I think that we use energy and resources carelessly at times. I do not think we are killing it though.

      It's not the need to clean up our act I was referring to. Rather, the "going green" movement. We DO need to address these issues. The problem is, many of us follow the fad and don't actually make a change.

   I  don't think its a 'fad' I think its a growing necessity in todays modern world. I believe that 'going green' is just a way to get people on board with helping the environment and I think If that gets people to recognize the evident problems in todays environment then so be it. I don't think its a trick to get money but rather a way to get people involved.

      At first, I agreed with this perspective. Then I saw a lot of people just doing the bare minimum to feel good about "going green." In the end, after a lot of research, I see both. Some people are trying to inspire, others are trying to make a buck.
